About the Writer

Rebecca Watkins

Rebecca Watkins is a fantasy fiction writer from Berkshire, England.

She is an avid fan of the fantasy genre and has been captivated by it from an early age.

As a young girl, her earliest memories of discovering fantasy include reading the Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien and watching Jim Henson's Labyrinth, starring David Bowie.

As an adult her favourite books and films/series include The Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, The Witcher, Hocus Pocus and to this day, the Labyrinth, which she was ecstatic to see re-released in a cinema in 2016.

Her interest in the genre also extends into the world of video games. As a child, her father taught her how to play Age of Empires and Age of Mythology, and the family would frequently host LAN parties, spending the whole evening at their computers, waging war on one another. Some of her favourite games include Fable, Halo, Mass Effect, The Witcher and Dragon Age.

As well as fantasy, she also enjoys history and mythology, specifically Egyptian, Greek and Norse.

After finishing the first television series of The Witcher, Rebecca decided she wanted to create a fantasy world of her own, and in December of 2020, she came up with an idea for a lead character and a world called Vallr. After scribbling notes and hundreds of questions on sheet after sheet of paper, she had enough to start building the story, and the writing began.

Since then, Vallr and its empires have grown, more lead characters have been born, creatures and monsters have evolved and the story has taken on a life of its own. The story and its characters grew long enough to be split into three parts, and so the trilogy came to be.
